  1. Hi, Poochie, I read your comment from a few years back about someone who has Down syndrome who can drive. It's a bit more complicated than "intelligent Down syndrome" or "regular Down syndrome" Down syndrome causes impairments that makes it difficult to learn and difficult to make sense of things going on, plus low muscle tone in every muscle of the body including mouth and torso, so it's harder to speak and eat, harder to sit up straight or to stand for a long time. But even if it's harder to learn stuff, that doesn't make it impossible, so quite a few people with Down syndrome do pass a driving test and drive regularly.

My son has Down syndrome. He's a joker and he can learn people and animals very quickly. But he has a hard time using his hands, or making sense of what he sees, feels or hears, or holding complicated ideas in his head. He probably comes across about as stupid as I'd come across if I were magically transported to a small village in the Andes mountains where I'd find it tiring to move about because the air's thin and I wouldn't know the language or customs. But he's no more stupid than you or me.

I hope your garden and folks are well, and I wish you a good 2013. OO0
